We met in 1982, when we were both living in Hull in East Yorkshire. Who remembers those wonderfully squalid flats of the late 70's and early 80's? For us, the last straw was a flat that was cold in the middle of summer and was so damp it had 'grow your own' flock wallpaper in the winter. Enough was enough, we put smart clothes on and went for an interview with an estate agent and moved out towards York into an isolated and rundown farmhouse in time to get married in 1985. Click here to see the farm we rented. After 3 years of trying to keep the farm tidy, 1988 saw us joining the property ladder as the housing boom really warmed up and we bought a brand new house in Market Weighton. We've moved several times since, renovating another abandoned farmhouse along the way, finally ending up back in Market Weighton and only a few yards away from the house we had in 1988. It's quiet, cosy, easy to look after and has a large enough garden to be able to enjoy lots of relaxing in the evening sun, a popular hobby of ours. Whilst it's not the idyllic dream of tranquil village life, the low maintenance does leave us with lots of spare time for the rest of our hobbies, and there's enough pubs around to keep us busy. 2004 saw the start of a new interest in our lives, an internet based business called HoneyPotGifts, selling all types of giftware to anywhere in the world. It's had a reasonable start, although the Christmas rushes are rather more hectic than we'd expected so it's all a bit exhausting, evenings in the sun and holidays over the Christmas break provide much needed relaxation.
We particularly enjoy holidays and we have many weekend breaks and longer holidays every year, both abroad and across mainland UK. In the UK, we usually take one of our many tents and go to places where we can enjoy hill walking and cycling, both on mountain bikes and our faithful Tandem. Werever we go, Dave's collection of ageing Olympus OM2s have gone with us, although we've both developed an interest in digital photography. During 2005, the Olympus collection hit Ebay and was posted to various addresses across Europe. Karen still uses her A40, Dave's collection now includes 3 digital cameras, a Canon S50, a Canon Ixus 40 and a Panasonic FZ30. The quality of slide film was superb, however digital offers so many opportunities to get pictures, and to use them on the website without all of the messing about with scanners and image processing. Digital also weighs rather less than 2 complete sets of 35mm film gear, so it's more likely to get carried to out of the way places and actually used. When we're at home, we either work on the house and garden, or get the bikes out and go for a ride somewhere locally, although the winter of 2003 /4 saw us busy with website developments, and we seem to have been at it ever since. After all of that exercise we need a bit of a rest, so we get the motorbike out and head for the East Yorkshire coast, usually Filey or Scarborough, and top up our strength with a good portion of fish and chips. Right, that's it for this page so off you go, have a look at the rest of the pages. We hope you enjoy the site, please use the guestbook page to let us know what you think, not too critical please...
