In May 2003, there was a Trailquest event organised in Cropton Forest in the North York Moors. Rather than waste a bank holiday weekend by staying at home so that Dave could compete, we went camping to Thornton le Dale,on the South edge of the Moors. The campsite, Overbrook Caravan Park, is a great place on the old disused railway station, no children allowed and 5 minutes walk from a couple of good pubs (Note: Feb 2006, the campsite has changed owners since we stayed and no longer accepts tents, a good site lost to campers). It was cold and sunny when we arrived on Thursday, but it rained all day Friday, so we drove to Whitby, bought some pictures from the Sutcliffe Gallery and went for fish and chips in a restaurant, a very pleasant way to spend a day. Saturday was trailquest day, it was warm and mostly dry and a good day for the ride, although not a very good score due to injury problems. Sunday was warm and very windy so we enjoyed a long walk around the moors near Saltergate amongst all the rest of the tourists. We didn't take many pictures during the weekend, but the pond in Thornton village was populated by geese, ducks and moorhens, all with their newly hatched young, very photogenic.
