Early in 2003, we went to Forge Valley on the Southern edge of the
North York Moors. It was a bright, cold winter day with snow still
on the ground, so we had a walk, took some pictures and went to the
Moorcock Inn at Langdale for a rather good lunch. |
We don't spend all of our
holidays jetting off to the sun soaked beaches of Southern Europe, we
like to spend some time on mainland UK, and that's when we have our more
active holdiays. We like to get out and about quite a lot, especially
going camping in one of our many differently sized tents, anything from
a couple of nights in a medium sized tunnel tent to a week or more in
a large frame tent. Just to confuse matters, we sometimes take our very
small tunnel tent and go off touring on the tandem, which means not a
lot of space and the luxury items get left at home. We also have a particularly
small mountain tent, which has no headroom at all, but does stand up in
howling gales on Welsh mountainsides, a habit which has been very useful
on several occasions.
Assuming we're in the car rather than on the
tandem, we always take walking gear so that we can get onto the nearest
hills and do some fell walking. Usually we also take the mountain bikes
and tandem as well, it gives us lots of options, although sometimes it
gets a bit difficult to fit all of the choices into one holiday, so we
just have to have even more holidays.
We also like to just get out for a day, or even
a few hours, and go for a ride or walk to a local beauty spot or good
pub. The pictures on this page were taken on those sort of days out, the
links in the menu will take you to some of our longer holidays.
